Mechanical Fabrication Technician – Welder

Working alongside world-leading defence scientists in our Integrated Engineering Services division we offer multi-disciplinary professional engineering services supported by in-house manufacturing capabilities, to solve challenging engineering problems for our Defence Science and Technology clients.About the roleYou will be embedded with the customer and will provide welding and mechanical fabrication expertise. In addition to performing welding and fabrication tasks, you will manage the maintenance of mechanical assets and ensure availability of inventory and consumables. Your exceptional communication skills will aid you in liaising with internal and external customers and manufacturing companies.As Mechanical Fabrication Technician you will be responsible for:Performing welding and metal fabrication tasks.Installation of wall fittings and fixtures.Assembling HF Power Amplifier modules.Providing technical support to trials.Liaising with manufacturing companies and coordinating hardware.Maintaining mechanical fixings inventory and ordering consumables.To be successful in this role you will require:Demonstrated experience with Arc, Oxy, MIG, and TIG welding of a variety of metals, including steel, stainless steel and aluminium.Proven sheet metal fabrication and fitting experience with machinery such as lathes, saws, folders, benders, guillotines and grinders.Ability to interpret customer’s manufacturing requirements, including creation of sketches, engineering drawings, create specifications and final manufacture and commissioning of product.Understanding of materials, such as ferrous and non-ferrous metals, composites and alloys.Licensed to operate a forklift, scissor lift and elevating work platforms.In depth understanding of Work Health and Safety (WHS) principles and demonstrated good housekeeping habits.Well-developed written and verbal communication skills.Eligibility to obtain an Australian Government security clearance at an NV1 level is required.Applications close on Monday 29 April 2019What we offerWithout the collective smarts of our people, we would not be able to achieve what we do. About the role
