Working alongside world-leading defence scientists in our Integrated Engineering Services division we offer multi-disciplinary professional engineering services supported by in-house manufacturing capabilities, to solve challenging engineering problems for our Defence Science and Technology clients.About the roleThis role is to support a high profile program of work within the Defence Science and Technology (DST) Group at Eagle Farm, Brisbane. The role requires an experienced Mechanical Technician with skills in mechanical fabrication, assembly and maintenance. This role will require good communication skills as you engage and support the requirements of multiple stakeholders, including scientists, managers and other technicians.As Mechanical Technician you will be responsible for:Reporting to the DST Program Leader.Demonstrating a high quality of workmanship and attention to detail.Conducting sheet metal fabrication and fitting with machinery such as lathes, saws, folders, benders, guillotines, welders and grinders;Interpreting customer’s manufacturing requirements, including the creation of sketches and interpreting engineering drawings.Engaging with engineers and scientists to solve complex mechanical fabrication challenges.Creating specifications and support final manufacture and commissioning of the productSupporting the test and commissioning of complex prototype systems.Supporting field trials, requiring travel throughout the year.To be successful for the role of Mechanical Technician you will require:Proven history fabricating and assembling complex, bespoke and prototype technical systems requiring significant testing and evaluation.Wide breadth of mechanical assembly and maintenance experience on complex systems.Excellent written and verbal communication skills.Excellent problem-solving aptitude and interest.Ability to work with technicians, engineers, scientists and managers.Ability to work in teams and autonomously.Eligibility to obtain an Australian Government secret clearance is required.Applications close on Friday 30th November 2019.What we offerWithout the collective smarts of our people, we would not be able to achieve what we do.
